Abstract: Asthma is an inflammatory disease that affects the respiratory system which causes episodes of breathlessness, wheezing, cough and chest pain [1, 7]. It is a very common disease affecting millions of people worldwide every year. According to World Health Organization, around 250-300 million people are globally affected by asthma, with around 15-20 million people in India including 10-15% children between the age of 5-11 years [8]. The exact cause for asthma is currently not known although it is thought to be induced by various environmental as well as genetic factors [9, 10]. These all factors collectively are responsible for disease prevalence in an individual [11]. We conducted this study on the north Indian population to find out the significance of one such genetic factor responsible for asthma susceptibility.
