Abstract: Xylan is the most abundant non cellulosic polysaccharide made up of linear homopolymers containing D-xylose monomers linked through β-1, 4-glycosyl bonds as shown in Fig. No.1. Isolation of xylan from natural raw material is very difficult without altering or losing the original structure and its association with other components. Xylan is found mainly in the secondary cell wall and is considered to be forming an interphase between lignin and other polysaccharides.
